Abstract:

This data layer represents public and publicly accessible boat ramps in New Jersey as of October 2022. The original boat ramps and pumpout locations tabular database was provided by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) to the Grant F. Walton Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis (CRSSA), Rutgers University, for the purposes of visualization on the MARCO Ocean Data Portal. The tabular data were imported into a GIS by CRSSA and subsetted to include only publicly accessible boat ramps. Note some of the publicly accessible ramps may be private, but are open to the public (this is noted in the point location's attributes). Boat ramps and pumpout locations are authored and maintained in a tabular database by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC), funded in part by the New Jersey Clean Vessel Act program administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service through the NJDEP, in support of NJBoating.org, an interactive website of boating information. These data are not intended for navigational use.

Purpose:

The original NJSGC tabular database representing boat ramp access locations in this GIS data layer were identified and mapped to provide geographic positions and ramp site attributes for New Jersey trailer boaters. Please visit njboating.org to view the ramps online and also for New Jersey boating information.

1. Although the data are in their current digital form with latitude and longitude positions, GPS accuracies satisfied the graphic needs NJBoating.org, providing the general position of boat ramps and pumpouts shown on the website's interactive map.
2. Data are not intended for navigational use.
