Raster Dataset

Comprehensive bathymetry data compiled primarily for regional ocean planning purposes.
This raster dataset represents region-wide bathymetry data that covers the entire Mid-Atlantic region out to the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). It was compiled by The Nature Conservancy primarily from NOAA's Coastal Relief Model and Atlantic margin bathymetry data compiled by the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center, University of New Hampshire. The raster cell size is approximately 100 meters.

Coastal Relief Model data for the Mid-Atlantic region were downloaded from the NOAA/NCEI Grid Extract viewer. Elevations less than 0 were extracted and the dataset was projected to Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere. Similarly, bathymetry data from CCOM-JHC for the U.S. Atlantic Continental Margin were downloaded and projected. The Mosaic to New Raster tool in ArcGIS was used to merge these two datasets, with the CCOM-JHC data taking precedence where there was overlap. In a few very small areas not covered by either dataset, NOAA's ETOPO1 data was incorporated. The Extract by Mask tool in ArcGIS was then used to "clip" the raster data to the EEZ boundary.
