Planning and Mapping in our busy Mid-Atlantic Ocean

WHAT?
Map our ocean! Join the American Littoral Society for an overview and demonstration where you will have the opportunity to view maps of the many uses in our busy ocean like never before. Dive deep into data layers and discuss conflicts or concerns surrounding new areas for offshore wind development, areas for sand mining, marine life considerations, and other ocean activities and uses.
WHY?
The Mid-Atlantic ocean is getting busier all the time, with users such as recreational boaters, commercial fishermen and shipping vessels often competing for the same spaces. As we consider and discuss the introduction of offshore wind farms along our coast, the American Littoral Society invites you to join us for a guided demonstration of the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal with Portal communications lead Karl Vilacoba, of the Monmouth University Urban Coast Institute.
WHO?
Anyone who wants to learn more about our ocean! This free and publicly accessible mapping site has grown in popularity among those who make their living on the water, educators, NGOs and everyday citizens who are interested in learning more about their ocean. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has recommended use of the Data Portal when commenting on current wind energy proposals.
Please NOTE
We highly recommend bringing your own laptop if possible as our presenter will take you through the data portal. We encourage you to take this opportunity to be able explore during the session, but this is not necessary to attend.
