How Tuesday: AIS Vessel Traffic Data

Join us Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. for a special webinar dedicated to the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal’s rapidly growing collection of Automatic Identification System (AIS) vessel traffic maps. The Portal’s AIS data, which previously covered 2011-13, was recently updated with 2015-17 data including several maps displaying annual transit counts for three new categories of vessels.

Portal Team member Karl Vilacoba of the Monmouth University Urban Coast Institute will walk users through the maps in Marine Planner and offer a sneak peak at a soon-to-be released tool that enables users to animate and toggle through monthly vessel traffic maps. Co-host Doug Simpson of the U.S. Coast Guard will take users beyond the track lines, sharing his insights on what the maps show and how they can influence decision-making.

To Register: For planning purposes, participants are asked to click here to register in advance. The webinar is free and open to the public.
